1966 – Thomas Pittorino Dies at 11 Chesley Road

Thomas Pittorino died on September 18, 1966, at home — his death notice in the Boston Globe gives his residence as 11 Chesley rd. By then the Pittorinos had lived in the house for more than two decades, the start of what would become the longest family residence in its history (1945–1982).

The notice records the family in a few lines: Thomas was the “beloved husband of the late Maria (Cappadona)” — it was Maria who had bought the house in 1945 from the Merrimac Savings Bank for $4,500 — and “father of Mrs. Angelina Mandile of Newton,” the daughter who would carry the house forward in the family until 1982. He is also survived by a brother, Angelo Pittorino of Waltham.

The funeral was held from the Valente Funeral Home on Washington Street, with a Solemn Requiem High Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Newton Centre — the parish a short walk from the house.
