Masonic Knights Templar sword and scabbard. a: Sword has a gold-tone finial of a knight’s helmet. The grip is beige celluloid with a banner on one side. It shows crossed flags with a red cross. At top, the banner reads, “In Hoc Signo Vinces.” The banner also reads, “Newtonville / Mass.” Above the banner is a rectangle reading “Gethsemane / 1872.” The other side of the grip has intertwined initials, “ACJ” with a cross and crown symbol and a leafy wreath. The hilt is shaped like a pair of crossed bones. One side has a triangle or delta with a skull in the center. The triangle is studded with ruby-like gems. The other side is a cartouche with a Christian cross in the center. The silver-tone blade is decorated with Masonic Knights Templar symbols on both sides: cross and crown, knight with shield, square and compasses. Lettering on one side reads, “Presented to / Right Eminent Sir / Asa Clarke Jewett / by Gethsemane / Commandery / No. 35, K.T. Newtonville / November 10, 1924.” In the center on the other side is a scene with tents at right and a city at left. Two knights on horseback ride toward the city. b: Gold-tone scabbard has three rings on the sides (to attach to belt). Along the scabbard are symbols (knight on horseback, Christian pilgrim, square and compasses). Lettering on the scabbard reads, “Rt. Emt. / Sir Asa Clark / Jewett.”
